Living Trades Villages

Where young people learn real trades, grow food, and build stronger communities — one garden at a time.

Clan Caledonia is a community interest organisation creating Living Trades Villages — compact regenerative sites on underused land where young people (and adults of all ages) learn practical trades while growing food, recycling waste, keeping bees, planting native trees, and strengthening local resilience.Every structure is built as a teaching project. Every system produces food, fertility or shelter. And if the site is ever left untended, it returns gracefully to meadow and woodland edge — with no toxic residue or broken infrastructure.

What We Do
We create compact regenerative sites that teach real trades while producing food, fertility and community benefit.
+ Living Trades Villages – small food gardens where young people learn horticulture, woodworking, stonework, thatching, beekeeping and more
+ Graceful rewilding – everything is built with natural materials so the site returns to meadow and woodland if ever left untended
+ Circular systems – organic waste recycling, on-site composting, native tree propagation, honey production
+ Community membership – food shares, repairs, workshops and skills training for all ages

Ways to Get Involved
We are creating the first Living Hearth — a regenerative community garden and Living Trades Village on underused land.
This is a shared community space where local people come together to grow food, improve biodiversity, learn practical skills, and strengthen neighbourhood resilience.
Clan Caledonia is the youth group that helps run and learn within the Hearth, but the Hearth itself belongs to the whole community.
How you can help build the first Living Hearth:
+ Local residents & families
Come along, get involved in the design and creation of the garden, grow food, and enjoy the space.
+ Adults, mentors & skilled volunteers
Share your knowledge, help supervise activities, or support practical work on site.
+ Young people (12–16 and older)
Join Clan Caledonia as one of the founding members and learn real trades while helping to build and care for the Hearth.
+ Housing associations, community groups & local organisations
Partner with us — offer land, co-design the space, or collaborate on community benefit projects.
+ Businesses & supporters
Work with us on organic waste recycling, sponsorship, tree planting, or community benefit delivery.
The Living Hearth is for everyone.
Whether you want to get your hands dirty, share skills, offer land, or simply support the vision, we would love to hear from you.
